i make banana bread.
You may have noticed I've been on somewhat of a baking streak. I don't know what it is about snow storms and house arrest, but they just bring out the Betty Crocker in me. Monday night I had a hankering for gingerbread cookies, but sadly we were out of molasses. Because he loves me, Jazz agreed to go into the Shell Station up the road with me to see if they had any. I told him it was a staple (it is right?), and they should have some. He disagreed. I scoured the aisles. Apparently, A1 sauce is considered more of a staple than molasses. As is green chili sauce. I don't know what's happening to this world. I'm sure in New England molasses is a staple. Right? Well, Tuesday that was all fixed by a trip to Publix, and I got to make those lovely spice cookies. Sadly, they've all disappeared. Um. Yes, I know I made them two days ago. That's not important right now.
Today, I decided to make banana bread with this recipe. I doubled it, and as other people suggested, added vanilla and a dash of cream. Banana bread is tricksy. It CANT be too mushy. Ew. Yuck. It can't have any nuts in it (Jazz says). It can't be too sweet. It can't be too chewy/bready. It must have a crunchy outer crust and a soft middle. But when you get it all right...ahhh, heaven.
My favorite part (aside from eating it, of course) is the wonderful smell of banana bread, baking in the oven. My mouth might be watering right now.
What do you do when you're stuck inside for days?
I LOVE banana bread but it must have nuts (sorry Jazz).
ReplyDeleteIn the days before children, I used to bake, cook soups/stews, and watch movies all day long. Sometimes I would catch up on my letter writing.
Now, I think I would tear out my hair to be locked inside all day. In fact, I don't think I could do it. I would bundle my kiddo up and play outside for some amount of time no matter what. Then on to arts and crafts, forts, etc. :-)
I agree - you do have to get out for awhile. Especially when you have a dog who loves the snow. But it also gets pretty treacherous when all the snow and roads turn to ice! :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your B-bread. I took the rest to work. Great sustaining snack during my long days in the air.
