non-meats

veggie burgers.

morningstar makes the best
veggie burgers ever.
they actually have a real texture,
not like those wimpy, slimy, mushy
veggie burgers you may have had.
and it even tastes like a real burger.
which is probably due to chemicals...
i'm okay with that.

Cuban food

Papi's.
(and classmates:)

yummy scrumptious Cuban food that i ate
way too much of this afternoon, with my hilarious,
wonderful fellow classmate, Sydia.
too bad i had to work afterward -
i could have done with a good ol' fashioned
siesta.

mmm, crunchy.

dog biscuits!

because somewhere on the internets, today is dog biscuit appreciation day.
and because i feel really bad for Lars who has now been cooped up inside with a cone on his head
for six days. and because he still has three days to go before it comes off.
i picked up some special treats for him, made of all sorts of dog-enticing things like
chicken & liver & peanut butter. i don't question the dog's tastes.
speaking of dogs, i watched a feel-wonderful national geographic dog-cumentary on netflix last night.
i think i need a dogo. or a domesticated wolf. and definitely an irish wolfhound.

and since i recently watched Eat, Pray, Love, all i think about is food now,
so i made a nice lunch for myself as well:
tomato and goat cheese on toast with
chai tea and
oatmeal raisin cookies =
yum.

one gourd thing

butternut squash risotto = happy tummies.

i know that it seems like i celebrate food all the time.
i like eating.
i like grocery shopping (though not on an empty stomach!).
i like reading cookbooks.
i like pictures of food.
i like cooking (but only when i don't have to).

so, i'm sorry for all the food posts, but i just have to post this amazing recipe for butternut squash risotto.
i don't have a pressure cooker so I followed some of the reviewers suggestions for using more (vegetable) broth and more time cooking.
it's not a great all-the-time recipe because who has fresh sage, aged gouda, butternut squash, or two cups of arugula routinely stocked in their fridge?
cooking show hosts. and people with more money than me.
but, if you're so tired of you're weekly staples (ahem, frozen veggie burgers) and want to try something new, delicious, and easy, i highly recommend this dish.
plus, it's nice to eat food that's fresh and homemade.
every once in a while.

family date

(vegetarian) dinner out
with two of my favorite people.

Based on a Scoutmob coupon, we tried out a restaurant in our area, which wasn't that good, sadly,
but the company couldn't be beat.

Dinner with two handsome men? Yes, please. :)

as you can see, we were the only people in the restaurant for awhile.
not the best omen. but, you win some, you lose some.

Chinese takeout!
We tried out a new Chinese place tonight...okay, the first Chinese place since moving down to our present location. We don't get out much. It's true.
The place we went to had tons of good reviews for being very authentic, and while everything had a nice flavor, the tofu could have been better.
Chinese food hasn't been the same since going vegetarian...
but my fortune cookie totally made it worth it!
