park happiness

georgia greenery.

i've been meaning to be one of those people
who wake up at 5:30 a.m. to take their dog for a 3 mile run.
no, really, they exist. weird, right?
well, i feel bad for lars. if i don't take him to the park,
he doesn't get much exercise.
in fact, he's lately resorted to chasing his tail for minutes on end.
i think he knows its the only way he can burn some energy.
but, until i'm one of those heroic oddly-early-rising people,
we go to the dog park.
the greenery makes me so happy.

twoating

the twittersphere.

i just think this is hilarious.
i may have a twitter account for a certain class project,
but i'm still skeptical about it.
maybe i would have more fun if there were little birds talking to me.

brain freeze

Popsicle walk.

the nicest thing about where we live now is that
we can walk to the grocery store and coffee shop.
i won't comment on how often that happens,
it's just the fact that we can.
well, i had a popsicle craving tonight, so
jazz and i took a little evening stroll.
i love living this close to a store.
when we were first married (and very poor),
we used to walk to the gas station down the street
for some ice cream treats.
this is the life:

we may have gotten two boxes of popsicles.
for variety, you know?

a writer's life

a writing day.

do you have melancholy days? days when you can only think
of all the roads not taken? days when it seems like things
weren't mean to be like this, at all?
today was a little like that.
on such days, i think it's important to take a notebook
and a really good book (like philip roth's goodbye columbus)
to a favorite marketplace/bakery/cafe (like alon's)
and have a nice cup of coffee plus some colorful treats.

confession: i may have done this yesterday too.
the weather was incredible. i kind of didn't want to ever leave -

singing and dancing

glee.

i know i'm really late to the bandwagon,
but i'm celebrating my recent discovery of glee.
i'm not a fan of tv, but i have to admit,
this show is pretty great.

these are my two favorite characters:

world health day

and cheetos.

today is world health day. so i'm celebrating cheetos.
that's just the kind of rebellious mood i'm in.
but i did take lars on a walk this afternoon,
and we probably walked a whole mile!
i wish i could say i've taken up running
again, already, since i'm sure that's
on my list of things to do.

alas, alack, i've just been eating cheetos.

do you have a guilty snack food?

(arriving) on a jet plane...

papa's home!

Lars and I were home alone last night,
as Jazz was on a business trip to Arizona,
and we sort of missed him.
and sort of had trouble sleeping.
so, we're really happy to have him back tonight!

i wish i were a cartoon character.

reading by Sarah Vowell

aka, the voice of Violet from The Incredibles
tonight I attended a reading by Sarah Vowell,
author of many nonfiction books, including her new one
unfamiliar fishes, about the history of Hawaii.
needless to say, she is very funny and her voice
really does sound like Violet
:)

red, red

vina borgia.

i'm not a big wine drinker, even though i have many fond
memories of evenings of wine and cards
at the grandparents' over Thanksgiving.
i can't even really drink much,
owing to an allergy to alcohol,
but sometimes, i like to drink some
anyways. usually, i'm disappointed,
since i can't exactly afford the "really good"
wines. but this Spanish wine was really nice
and surprisingly so, considering its price tag! ($8)
good surprises are so nice.

one, two, three, four!

pizza!!!!

apparently, we really love pizza. i mean, really love it.
like, love it so much we realized that we actually have four empty pizza boxes
waiting to be thrown out. from this week alone. it's a little scary.
to be fair, the thing that happened is...
we ordered pizza last weekend. normal, right?
then, it was $8 pizza day at Whole Foods on tuesday, so...
then on friday, our normal friday night plans fell through, and we
found ourselves with a night all to ourselves. what did we do?
Got more pizza at Whole Foods.
Yesterday, we discovered that after only eating three slices friday night,
we had accidentally left the whole pizza sitting in the cold oven all night.
sad! well, we were so sad that we just had to order another pizza.
and that's the story.
i have no good explanation for the madness.

if you could only eat one thing for a week,
what would it be?
i choose pizza:)

literary arts

new books.

you've probably heard that Borders is closing.
i find that kind of sad, because even though
i rarely buy new books, i like having a place to go browse
and drink coffee at the same time. there is no such thing as too many
bookstores, in my opinion.
but, i took advantage of this sad fact by buying several
discounted books today...if you've never experienced
the joy of buying many books all at once,
instead of - as i usually do - looking around for hours
and not being willing to part with so much money,
and walking out empty-handed, you must try it.
buying on amazon, while cheaper, is just not as much fun.
on the recommended reading list for twenty great novellas,
i got five! (plus two for pleasure)
what do you love reading?

i have no april fools, but i did get gelato with my love,
and i think that's worth celebrating.
