loverboy & B & a baby bump

so, i'm pregnant. and apparently when you're pregnant, at nine months you have to pop a baby out. of. your. unmentionables. oh my gosh. we started our birth classes last sunday and at the end they showed a few vidoes of women giving birth and let me tell you. they should have had a warning on that video. i was not prepared. i told one of my girlfriends about it and she said i need to explore all my feelings about it, but really my feelings are very simple. i don't want to see other people giving birth. i mean, it is an amazing, miraculous thing that our bodies are created to produce and birth human life. i am in full agreement with this, and i'm so, so ecstatic about baby grace (and still can't believe it!). but in no way does that make me want to see other people giving birth. i mean. it's a little private. and, uh, gross. i know there are plenty of women out there who will probably disagree with me, and who can't get enough of the whole birth process and think it's so interesting and want to see these videos over and over again. i am just not those people. i'm mostly okay with the birth process itself (besides that it's gross and painful of course), but frankly, seeing other people give birth freaks me out! i mean, it's scary enough without watching someone else's experience! and okay, maybe i'm a little freaked out by the whole thing in general.

however, i also have a friend who loves giving birth, so maybe that's how i'll feel??

finally, a baby bump:

you're loving jazz's new slippers, right? ;)

  1. I wasn't scared at all ... until I saw a video of a birth in a class. So much blood, who knew? not i.
they should make the dads watch the videos, not the mother ;)

  2. No, I totally agree with you ... especially before I gave birth three times! I'm okay helping a friend through birth, but wow, those videos are not for the faint of heart, that's for sure.

  3. Oh my gosh, I'm so glad that I'm not the only one! Andrea, they should totally make the fathers watch and not the mothers. And Hannah, you are brave...I don't know if i'd want to see a friend give birth even. :)

  4. Rebecca, ok, so I am one of those few that can watch the videos without batting an eye (except to blink away the tears;). I do have a love for all things baby: first and foremost, the conception (well, we have to make 'em! So you might as well enjoy the process;), the pregnancy, the birthing, then the nursing. But especially the birthing. You will do just fine. Your body will "grow" a baby it can well birth-most women's do. And then when you've done it, you'll look back with changed eyes and say,"Oh...now I see." :)

  6. Haha, I remember thinking and writing something very similar after our first class! They sure do a great job of easing your mind, huh? I think the goal must be to scare you half to death so then you go through the experience and find yourself thinking afterward, hmm that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! One thing that I wasn't aware of and nobody talked with me about was the recovery. Be sure to ask lots of questions about that and make sure that you have all of the necessary supplies when you get home....but also take as much of those supplies from the hospital that you can! ;)
