wilder in 2014: week 26

ww 6.28 (26)

wilder in his native element: outside, with a bowl full of fruit. seriously, this guy can demolish a container of any red fruit you care to throw his way faster than you'd believe. it's amazing. it's also almost the only thing he'll eat these days.

this was (obviously) from a few weeks back at piedmont park when our friends were visiting. it was such a hot, hot day, but wilder was completely happy sitting on this bench with his fruit. he is such a love.

p.s. i've published this photo retroactively. don't be alarmed.

wilder in 2014: week 25

ww 6_21

wilder's weekly, just in time for the end of the week! i took wilder to a splash pad in atlanta this week for the first time. he enjoyed it, but let's just say that his favorite thing was -- as always -- the stair steps leading down to the playground (and back up again!). we are at that phase where he just likes doing one thing over and over again. particularly anything involving walking - stairs, hills, bridges, basically anything that has an incline or uneven surface, are all very exciting right now. and as a result, two very skinned knees. :/

i recently read this article about 10 things you have to do if you are a mother of a boy. it was hilarious and seemed pretty dead on as far as my experience goes. one of them was you have to rethink your standards of safety. so far, that's happening. except i haven't really embraced a new standard of safety, i'm just realizing that this boy is bound and determined to get some bumps and scrapes here and there.    it's all a little scary for me. apparently more scary for me than for him.

oh, and those two little things in his hands? yeah, not little pebbles like i thought as he was carrying them around. nope. those are two little raisins he found on the ground, as i discovered when he finally handed them to me. thanks, baby, thanks.

life with this boy is fun. exhausting! but fun. :)

April's family photo shoot

Grace_040214_34_web

in april we got to do a family photo shoot in a little park tucked away in Buckhead. we had been trying to do it since the fall but bad weather, bad weather and more bad weather kept preventing us, so when we finally made it out in April and everything was beautiful and blooming, it was so dreamy. also, april was perfect because everything was green again and it was nice and cool outside.

we had so much with with our photographer, who captured our little breakfast picnic of croissants (wilder's favorite part) plus coffee cake and clementines so beautifully. we could not have asked for a more beautiful backdrop for our first professional family photo shoot!

wilder was thrilled that he had so many clementines to bite into (oops! we didn't realize until half way through that he was actually biting through the skins, haha.). i just love this age. everything is new and interesting, and since he doesn't really know exactly what's going on, even boring family photo shoots are fun!

i'm really happy with these photos. i think we look so young and carefree, which is not at all how we are feeling these days, haha. ahhh parenthood. it just makes you feel old and tired and a little crazy half the time, doesn't it? or maybe that's just us? but anyways, it was so nice to take a morning off from real life to dress up and eat croissants in the park. i highly recommend it. ;) i'm already making plans to do it again soon.

Jessica & Gabe's wedding in Austin

IMG_3653

i'm finally getting around to posting the photos i took two weeks ago from when Wilder and i went to Austin for my cousin Jessica's wedding. it was so beautiful! my photos really don't do it justice. i was amazed just walking out of the airport when we landed that it was May in Austin and there was no humidity. last year in may for my brother's wedding i felt like i had just stepped into a sauna when we landed in Austin.

anyways, the wedding was at le san michele in buda, texas, so only a 30 minute drive south down the highway. if you're planning to get married in the austin area anytime soon, i highly recommend it! the evening ceremony and dinner was outdoors and because the weather was breezy and cool, it was perfect! the vibe was very mediterranean bohemian, vintage, eclectic. très magnifique!

and my cousin Jessica was the most beautiful bride! but i'm not surprised, she's always stunning. her handsome groom (i can't believe i didn't get any pictures of him/them together!) was pretty stellar, too. ;)

and best of all, Wilder stayed happy even though he was about an hour past his bedtime from the start! he had the best time just wandering around the grounds, eating rocks, getting tickles and cuddles from my aunts and cousins, and putting in his two cents during the vows ;).

we had the best time, and i miss all my family and friends there so hard (and breakfast tacos! oh breakfast taco how i miss you! i might have had a minimum of 2 per day.). however, traveling solo with a toddler is challenging, to say the least. mainly because toddlers out of their comfort zone (at least my toddler?) refuse to sleep, while sleeping in your bed, so basically no one sleeps. yay! but my brother and sister-in-law were a huge help playing with Wilder a few times a day so mama pee and could brush her teeth in peace, etc. still being tired is a small price to pay for such a fun (and yummy) trip.

until next time Austin (breakfast taco!)!
