oo da la li

sometimes, the sky threatens to fall,
you wake up feeling like the world is ending,
(or that it should),
nothing seems important or interesting...

so i put on gloves and deep-cleaned the house.
and by that, i mean mopped and cleaned out
the microwave.
then, i went to whole foods and splurged on organic apples,
garlic-stuffed olives and a white english cheddar.
i also made  acorn squash
which is maybe supposed to be a winter vegetable.
but i kind of feel like breaking the rules right now.
:)

again with the reading

deliverance.

i've only just started it, so no spoilers,
but i'm told it's one of the best novels of the
last fifty years. or something like that.
it's all subjective of course.
still, i like that it begins with a map.

p.s. also reading some other things, i find it's best
to have a few things going at once, don't you?
some for pure pleasure and some for life
and literature.

book nook

shelves of wonderful, old, dusty books.

i'm trying to work my way through all the used bookstores
i can find here. today, i discovered the Book Nook in
Decatur. Book Nook II, its sister store in Lilburn, was a
staple for me when we were living with the in laws.
and this one is only 10 minutes away, now.
score.
i could just wander around those aisle for hours.

august already?

it's still summer.

i'm not sure whether to be happy or sad that it's already august.
this summer is going so fast. i feel like i've barely started things,
but really we're right in the middle. just five more weeks of
summer quarter, then of course fall quarter will be here. i'm
right at that point in my writing schedule where i'm supposed
to have my nose to the grind (does that sound wrong?).
i'm ready for cooler weather, but i'm also enjoying the slower pace
of my summer schedule. waking up on time is getting harder and harder.
i am just not a morning person. it's always about 10 at night
when i feel a sudden burst to start cleaning or go run errands
or start homework. but then i think, no it's bedtime,
i can't start anything. so then, i don't. and then, it's 24 hours
later by the time i have that feeling again. i think it's the curse
of hot weather. (i hope).

other things this month:
1. finding a house
2. keep up the writing momentum
3. getting up early enough to exercise before it's too hot
4. barbeque outing at stone mountain
5. rereading The Road
6. swimming while it's still hot out

chinese treat

coconut milk tea with boba.

after chinese lunch with friends today,
we went over to quickly for boba.
ahhh. i have a special place in my heart
for taiwanese food, engendered by
coco's on the drag in austin.
love.

favorite quote of the day:
"it's like a milkshake but not as good" - joe black, jr.

restaurant purveyor

lunch date at west egg.

had a lunch date at west egg over in home park
with a new(ish) friend ... oh my, what's better
than a lunch date on a friday afternoon?
i keep finding all sorts of new reasons
for us to move down into the middle of town.
like, eating breakfast at west egg every weekend!
by the way, anyone want to guess (no looking it up!)
what that name is referencing?
no prizes, just the knowledge that you are a
very smart person indeed. or at least you
paid attention in high school english ;)

check out our delicious food:
(you're salivating aren't you?)

a little (scoop) of heaven

one of my classmates has been talking about
rooster cookies all year, and i finally got a chance
to have one. mmm. i broke my no-cookie fast
for that piece of heaven. i know, what? i'm trying
to cut out some of those processed sugars.
and this cookie is like pure sugar. or
pure salt, sugar, butter and chocolate.
but, yes, totally worth it.
i'm just glad i don't really live close to
where they're sold (at least in person) or there'd be no
hope for my poor cookie-loving tummy!

let me count the ways...

photo shoot!

i had such a fun time taking engagement pictures
of some friends today. they were so cute and photogenic.
i could have kept on taking pictures for hours,
as i kept (keep) thinking of more venues/shots!
thanks guys for being wonderful models in this
terribly muggy summer weather!
come back in the fall and we'll do it again;)

just a very small sneak peek:

fingers crossed

all laquered up.

there's just something about red nails
that makes me feel happy.

a sweet friend treated me to a manicure today,
in exchange for taking pictures of her and fiance's engagement
photos tomorrow. now i really have to make 'em good! :)
let's all pray that it won't still be raining in the morning,
as we want to take them outside in the park...
now it's off to eat a veggie burger and then
get a good night's sleep, so i can get up for our early shoot!

where to eat in atlanta

brunch at parish.
(and inman park)

we made another wonderful brunch discovery today,
this time in inman park, which we are in love with.
too bad it's much too far for jazz's daily commute,
or we'd live there in a heartbeat!
impromptu brunch plans are the best (and usually the
only time they work out:)
and i love parish.
it'd be the perfect place to impress out-of-town friends and family,
so if you come visit me, i will take you here:)

another saturday night

homemade kettle corn
+
movie at home.

our saturday night recipe is pretty simple. and mostly, we like to stay home.
i sometimes wish that we were a little more ... nomadic. but, it just takes so much
work (and planning), you know? so tonight we decided to walk
down to our trusty grocery store for a movie and gelato.

then i blew jazz's mind with homemade kettle corn. yeah.
